On 21 May 2014 the book „My Europe. My Rights. Material of the national youth conference – legal ideas contest, held celebrating the European Year of Citizens and Lithuanian’s Presidency of the Council of the EU” was presented in Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.


2014-05-21 The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania has adopted the law on establishing the institute of class action in civil cases

As of 1 January 2015 the law amending the Code of Civil Procedure of Lithuania and creating the legal framework for the exercise of the right to file class actions will come into force. The amendments to the law provide that a class action should be based on equivalent or similar factual circumstances and may be filed when a group of claimants seek remedy for the equivalent or similar substantive rights or interests. >>

2012-12-28 The Supreme Court of Lithuania dismissed claimant’s demand to oblige the defendant to withdraw information published about the company from its website

The Supreme Court of Lithuania adopted its decision in a civil case No. 3K-3-586/2012 ruling that decisions adopted by courts of lower instance were unjustified and finding that the claim of UAB “CAN2 FASHION” company and its manager J. K. to a defendant S. G., who was the manager of the website, where comments about the defendants were published, must be dismissed. The applicants claimed that the information published was false and humiliating and thus sought the court to oblige the defendant to withdraw the information from his website and reimburse the non-pecuniary damages caused >>

2012-07-28 Law and Management Institute intends to execute a Cooperation Agreement with LEIP

On 28 July 2012, Mrs. Jolita Malinauskaite, the Director of Law and Management Institute (LMI), held a meeting with Mrs. Rasa Ardyte-Juskys, the Head of the Lithuanian Expatriates Internship Program (LEIP).

During this Meeting, it has been discussed the prospective cooperation opportunities between LMI and LEIP, and the representatives of both institutions supported the signing of a mutual cooperation agreement at their earliest convenience.

LEIP is a program, funded by the Lithuanian Expatriates Community in USA and Canada, offering the short-term internship opportunities in Lithuania for expatriate students. This program is aimed at establishing opportunities for Lithuanian origin students to conduct internships and gain work experience in their relevant field of study, to expand Lithuanian language skills, to get acquainted with Lithuanian every-day life and culture, as well as the respective developments thereof.

2012-04-26 European Court of Justice adopted a decision under reference for preliminary ruling of Supreme Court of Lithuania, Case C‑213/10

Having regard an action brought by the creditor acting on the basis of an assignment of claims which has been granted by the liquidator appointed in liquidation proceedings, ECJ ruled that the right acquired by an assignee is subject to rules other than those applicable in insolvency proceedings and jurisdiction should be determined in accordance with the provisions of Regulation No 44/2001. >>
